Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

Do you take on volunteers?

Yes, we do!
We welcome volunteers who are passionate about animals and keen to learn. Volunteering roles can vary depending on availability and current capacity.

If you’re interested, please get in touch via our contact page or pop into store for a chat. All volunteers must meet our age requirements and be happy working as part of a team.

Do you sell live animals?

Yes but only at our Portrack Lane store.

All live animals are sold exclusively at our Portrack Lane location, where we have the appropriate facilities and trained staff to ensure the highest standards of care.

Our Billingham store is supplies only and does not sell live animals.

What types of animals do you sell?

We specialise in a wide range of pets including small animals, birds, reptiles, Freshwater aquatics, and fish, alongside everything you need to care for them properly.

Animal availability can change regularly, so we always recommend popping in or giving us a call to see who’s currently looking for a home.

Do you sell starter setups?

Yes!
We offer starter setups for many pets, including reptiles, fish, birds, and small animals. These can be tailored to the species and your space, and our team will always make sure you’re set up correctly before taking a pet home.

Can I come in just for advice?

Absolutely and we encourage it.
You don’t need to buy to ask questions. Whether you’re researching your first pet or upgrading an existing setup, our team is always happy to help with honest, welfare-focused advice.

Can you order products in if you don’t have them?

In many cases, yes.
If we don’t have a specific product in stock, our team may be able to order it in for you, depending on availability. Just ask in store or give us a call

Do you rehome animals?

Yes, occasionally.
We sometimes have animals looking for forever homes, either from our own care or due to changes in circumstances. Availability can vary, so we recommend keeping an eye on our website and social media or asking a member of staff in-store.

How can I contact you?

You can reach us via our contact page, by phone, or by visiting us in-store.
We’re always happy to help and point you in the right direction.

Do you sell live animals to children?

Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult when visiting our store, and all animal sales are approved by trained staff.

We’ll always ask questions to ensure the pet is suitable and going to the right home.
Our priority is the welfare of the animal, not making a quick sale.

Do you sell live food?

Yes, we do.
Live food is delivered twice weekly and is available at both our Portrack Lane and Billingham stores, subject to availability.

If you’re after something specific, feel free to contact us or ask in store and we’ll be happy to advise.

Are you a local, family-run business?

Yes, we’re a family-run, independent business based in the Teesside area.
We pride ourselves on offering honest advice, high welfare standards, and a friendly, community-focused approach across all our stores

Can I reserve an animal?

Reservations may be possible in certain circumstances and are handled on a case-by-case basis.
Please speak to a member of staff in-store for the most accurate advice.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes!
Gift vouchers are available and make a great option if you’re unsure what to buy, especially for pet owners.

Do you have parking available?

Yes, parking is available near our stores. If you’re unsure where to park, feel free to ask a member of staff when you arrive.

Are you wheelchair and pram friendly?

We aim to make our stores as accessible as possible. If you need assistance while visiting, our team will always be happy to help

Why do you ask so many questions before selling an animal?

We ask questions to make sure each animal is going to a suitable, prepared home. It’s never about judgement, it’s about welfare and long-term success for both pet and owner.

Do you host events or in-store days?

From time to time, yes. Any upcoming events will be shared on our website and social media.
